Exports and Health Certificates
Consignments of fish/fishery products and molluscan shellfish exported to Third Countries are accompanied by a Health Certificate. The Health Certificates are issued by the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) who are the Competent Authority under Irish and European legislation in respect of fishery products manufactured, processed, or packaged in Ireland. Health Certificates are not required when a consignment is being exported within the European Union. A Food Business Operator (FBO) that requires a Health Certificate for Third Country exports must give reasonable notice (a minimum of two working days) to their local SFPA port office to allow sufficient time for their application to be processed. Application forms for a Health Certificate and an explanatory booklet may be obtained from one’s local SFPA office or downloaded from the SFPA website.
Exports to China require a number of registration steps prior to applying for the specific Chinese Health Certificate and the Chinese Certificate of Origin. These procedures can take some time to complete.
